Key Factors in Successful Young Adult Development.

As children reach high school age, they need to start planning for their future. A Mentor can provide important guidance that young adults don’t receive at home or in school. Young adults generally look up to Mentors and place great value on their opinions and recommendations.  Helping young adults to start thinking about important life choices is a critical discussion that Mentors are uniquely positioned to have.  These five, simple Mentoring Messages can help shape those discussions

Key Mentoring Messages for Young Adults.

Looking out into the future, where does the young adult see him or herself?  What is their vision for employment, income, family, lifestyle?  What role do they see themselves playing in society?

Assessment (Self)

As young adults move into high school age, they need to start assessing their skill sets to see if they align with their future Vision.  A realistic self Assessment is a crucial aspect of developing an achievable Vision of the future and is critical in developing a Plan to achieve that Vision

With a Vision and self Assessment completed, young adults need to begin developing an action Plan to achieve their Vision.  This includes a review of educational and other developmental requirements that will be necessary to achieve success

Once a Plan has been developed, young adults must continuously monitor Progress to ensure that key milestones are being met

The one constant in life is change.  As a young adult’s circumstances change, he or she must recognize the need to adjust their Vision which requires updating their self Assessment, their Plan, and the metrics they will monitor to track their Progress
